So I am working towards completing three Olympic distance triathlons in 2010. I tentatively picked The Rumpus In The Bumpus International (in April), The Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon (in June), and The Nations Triathlon (in Sept).
Amy's brother Jon and I completed the Hyannis Sprint 2 Triathlon last September, but had a disappointing experience when they canceled the bike portion due to heavy rain the night before. This not only was annoying because I feel like I actually haven't really completed a triathlon yet, but I was much more annoyed due to all the effort it took to get my bike up to Hyannis, MA.
The best part of this first race was my first open water swimming race. Not only was it open water, it was ocean racing (although it didn't seem long enough for me). I completely misjudged the vectors...I was anticipating more current pushing me sideways, and I sprinted out from the start, and then had to backtrack towards the first turn. The waves looked bigger than I thought and I was having fun swimming up and over them! None of the three races I am planning on doing have ocean swimming with them, two are in rivers, and one in a man-made lake.
In any event this first triathlon (or duathalon) was fun and it sealed my interest in doing more - just from now on all three parts!
Hey Mark-
ReplyDeleteIf you're not set on those big-city tris, you should think about coming out to central NY and doing a tri or two in the Finger Lakes region! I'm planning on doing three this summer: Broome County (sprint only) in July, Cayuga Lake Tri (August), and the Skinny Man Tri (in September). Check em out and think about it
